Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
Treats Varicosities You Can’t See
At Athens Vein & Aesthetics we offer Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS) to treat patients with advanced varicose veins that remain hidden beneath the skin.
During this highly specialized treatment, Dr. Malone uses Color Duplex Venous Ultrasound to guide a small needle into the vein. A foaming medication is then injected to permanently seal the vein.

Dr. Chris Malone
“When treated with Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy clinical results have shown patients to have a high vein closure rate five years post treatment with overall improved vein health.”
Quicker Recovery, Precise Results
The guided ultrasound allows Dr. Malone to fully map the lower leg veins and to monitor the effects of the foaming medication in damaged veins in real time.
During the procedure, several injections may be made along the vein to ensure complete closure and rerouting of circulation to healthy veins. Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy is performed in our office.
The Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy procedure usually takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
Typically, you should be able to resume normal activities within a few days after the treatment. Most of our patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms within 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
We offer the Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide System for Pain and Anxiety Relief
Athens Vein & Aesthetics is one of the few practices in the area offering this combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide which is effective enough to ease your pain and anxiety without medication

What to Expect Following UGS

Following the procedure, you’ll be fitted with a compression stocking.

Most patients resume normal activity within 24 hours.

You’ll return for an ultrasound to confirm that it has been effective.
Is UGS Right For You?
Just like with any medical procedure, there are associated risks and complications with UGS. Our vein specialists use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to determine your eligibility for the procedure. Once we have a full assessment, we review your medical history to rule out other conditions that could present any risks.
We’ll also make sure you’re fully informed regarding the potential complications associated with the UGS procedure.
During your initial appointment, our providers will help you determine if a UGS procedure is the right option to correct your advanced varicose veins.
